Computer will not power up after "sleep"

I have vista ultimate, and told my computer to sleep last night... The state is just past stand by, but not as fully shut off as hibernate.

Anyway no matter what I push, it will not boot up. The hard drives don't spin up or anything.

I thought the power supply went bad (the motherboard still lights up with a green LED). So I replaced it, but still the power button glows orange. I've unplugged it for long periods of time (minutes) and nothing. Could my motherboard be the issue? It's a 4 1/2 year old computer, I bought it brand new from gateway.

doing that now by pulling the battery. is that the right way?

i pulled the little watch like battery for 15 minutes, re installed it and it's still the same. If I hold down the power button for any amount of time, nothing happens, it just stays orange.

it could be the age of the thing...I haven't installed vista on any old machine...maybe I should keep this rc2 around for that.

could be an ATX psu issue...not that it is bad...but might not support some power saving functions

BUT...what are you actually pushing to wake up your comp?
research the gateway model and see.

I'd also recommend checking the viability of your PSU. Another thing is if you've OC'd your system there might not be enough voltage going to your cpu to have the computer come out of the ' sleep ' state.

It's not overclocked. It was the top of the line at the time, $2500 or so. It's had vista for over 3 months now and has never not awaken yet. I always push the power button to re awaken it.

I'm going out of town this weekend, but will respond to all suggestions on monday. Thanks for your help!

It could be the PSU, good chance it is.

these things are all different based on models and manufacturers...
I have 4 computers...it's a slight pain to remember how my comps react to what to wake them up...
but mostly for me I hit esc...or the crescent "moon" button on my keyboard.

There is also an option, under screensaver, power management options....that you can use to tell your computer to do this and that with certain keys for such things.

Please help me.. os wind xp.. while on computer, all of the sudden screen goes black except small box that says sleep mode and then all black again. The main screen with 'emachines' name comes up and that is it. stuck there.. cant get out of that . and computer does still have power on.. only way to get back into my computer is to connect this travel drive (512mb) into my usb port , that is the only way i can use my computer now.. other wise it will come up but then will go to ' sleep mode' do you know why and how to fix? thanks hope this even makes sense to someone.. ; )
