Computer shuts down randomly!

Hello all,ive been having a problem for the last couple of weeks
My pc just cuts out randomly..sometimes its 3 times a day..other days its fine!(it never happens while im playing bf2 or other games)
it usually happens when the computer is idol
Its a custom built amd 3800/1024ram/sata hd running windows xp home.
ive looked at the security event viewer and it seams this happens every time :

this is followed by about 15 policy changes, events 848-850
there is also an NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON(could this be a hacker?)
ive come to the conclusion it could have something to do with the latest update from windows,
or maybe the windows firewall?
hell it could even be my Motherboards built in firewall..which ive never used!

any suggestions??
ive search google/micosoft with no luck!
..i hope ive given enough infomation..please tell me if i need to explain it better!

does the pc come back again..... I am assuming you do not have it set to hibernate or turn the HD or display off when idle for a time ?

is it turning off like someone pulled the plug ? if it is do the lights go off stay off on the front ?
or is it just resetting ?

hibernate is disabled..its like someone pulls the plug out..
i have to manually switch it back on.

I can feel a format comming on...maybe i'll use my windows ME disk

it wouldnt have anything to do with my GT6600 256mb graphics card would it?
or my external sound card?..it seems when i restart i have to power off and on my sb extigy(soundcard) to get the sound working again!

It realy could be anything, strange that it does that when it is idle
do the lights go out on the front of the pc ? do you have the pc set to turn off the hd or monitor , after a preset time ?

might be the power supply, though repairing PCs I have rarely seen a bad power supply thatwa snot dead. There was one fixed on this forum last week and it was the power suppy, pc would shut off, though they were using it at the times when it did, playing games.

Ive heard of viruses doing this. If you havnt allready I would do the following:

1. Scan your whole computer for Spyware, Adware, Viruses, Trojans, etc.

2. Double check and make sure that you arent indeed un-plugging you power.

3. Check the back of your computer and make sure the power is plugged in there aswell.

4. and... If all else fails pull the cover off the case and triple check all of the power connections :\

I hope that helps, and I know it sounds like a couple lame tech support suggestions but in most cases... those are whats wrong

dude come on anphrax.. he said his computer shut down randomly, it can't be virus, it has to be power. At least help people. check your psu, then check your ram.

Its not every time while idle..but mostly...
im almost sure it only started happening when it downloaded an automatic update a few weeks back!
i just dont understand why there are so many policy changes all at the same split second just before it powers off!

tommorow.. i will take the case apart and have a closer look
run some reg cleaners etc..
and give it a spring clean,


note..when the pc first arrived it had a non funtional motherboard (damaged in transit)..and they replaced it!
and upgraded the amd3700 to 3800
free of charge!
now im thinking the psu may have taken a bad knock.
any links on how to test my psu and ram..
would be greatly apreaciated

now this is intresting! i just looked at the power options in control panel
it says the UPS service is currently stopped(uninterruptible power supply)...is this just for laptops..or could this be the problem?

Well plug it straight into a good wall outlet socket and see if any better.
