Hey guys I need some help. My computer that I custom built about 2 years ago was going good until the other day. What happened I have no idea and thats what I kinda need help with.

Problem: My computer wont run... Its plugged in and everything and I hit power, it starts (Like the fan starts going to keep it cool) but it doesnt show anything. The monitor just has a blank screen. I also notice that the harddrive doesnt make any noise because it used to... like a warmup sorta thing. At first I thought it was the harddrive, so I went out and bought a new harddrive. Not it. Perfectly good new harddrive, it still wont show any sign of starting up.

Question: Can I still use this computer? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Is it the processor or something? Basically can I do anything to it to get it to work again?

Thanks much ahead of time. Any comments or questions on what I'm running I'll answer. But please, replies ASAP =) I want to get this thing running again.

its the mobo or psu , but much more likely the mobo , to know for sure get a digital multimeter and measure the psu voltages with it and report back with the voltages. see these guides
http://www.driverheaven.net/guides/testingPSU/
http://www.ochardware.com/articles/psuvolt/psuvolt.html
it wouldnt cost much,around 20$

also a longshot but might help, reset the cmos 2 ways to do this
1) theres a jumper near the battery, while the pc is powered off put it to pins 2-3 for about 10 seconds then put back to pins 1-2 and power up
2) disconnect the power cord from the psu and get the battery out for 30 minutes then put it back (back exactly the way it was do not put it on the other side) and connect the power cord and power up

if it will work then get into the bios and load optimized/performance/setup defaults ,save & exit

check mobo for bad capacitors (perferably with a flashlight),see examples

Check the video card. If its broken it won't show anything on the screen. If you installed a speaker to the motherboard, it should give 1 long beep at startup.

I tried that. I have three video cards and I switched them all out and back in. Nothing. The speaker on the motherboard doesnt give a beep at all. Basically, when I hit the power button all the fans turn on, everythings getting power, the cdrom opens and closes with the button... just I dont know if the harddrive is spinning because it doesnt make the normal sound it does when it starts up. It used to give like two quick sounds when it started up, I guess to callobrate it or something?

If the hard drive is broken, the BIOS will still display on the screen. So its either the Motherboard or PSU.

Does the hard drive light on the case come on at all when you boot it up?

IDK I've done something to it where it starts up but with the new harddrive it says no OS found... So I've tried installing my XP back on it but to no avail... So I'm gonna just keep trying. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
