Default Computer help

Hi, I have a computer problem. I left my computer on all day today, and when i returned I found it turned off. I turned it on and then all it shows is a blinking dash on the top left hand corner. I tried to reinstall windows but all it says is 'Press ctrl, alt, and del to restart'. I opened up my case and cleaned my cpu heatsink and fan because it was making screeching noises and didnt help. Could any one help?

BTW: My specs is, Pentium 3, ati radeon 9200 pro, 384 ram, dvd, cdrw, and 200 gig seagate hard drive, Thanks.

Is it giving you any beeps? Can you get into the BIOS?

My first impression is that your HS/F crapped out and fried your CPU, but I could be wrong.

Does the BIOS show our CPU to be in good shape?

You can get into BIOS, but your OS isn't booting? Hmmm... Check your hard drive cable connections. Reseat the IDE and the power cables.

You may also want to take your hard drive and put it a different computer as a slave drive, just to see that it is working.
