Computer does not recognize cd/dvd rom

I have a problem. My computer is not recognizing my NEC 1300A. Also, it does not recognize Alcohol. When I open my 'My Computer' all I see at the bottom is my floppy drive. It's strange because everything was fine this afternoon. Can anyone please help me.

has the alcohol trial period expired. there is supposed to be a rare glitch in the latest version that interferes with drives in "my computer"

i would say check the connections...you never know...maybe the IDE or power cable might have come loose

that too. i ahve heard more than one story of coincidence like this. check if your optical drives are registered in BIOS. that will tell you if they are connected or not.
