Unhappy Computer Crashes - HD thud

I was running Spybot to have my computer turn off immediately with a thudding sound (HD?)

It then immediately restarted and just as the Vista loading icon appeared, another thudding sound occured.

Is my HD on its way out?

It sounds like it. Did you try running chkdsk /r in command prompt?

I've done chkdsk, but I've realized that my computer randomly restarts & the remaining HD space varies.
It was 13.9gb a few days ago and now its 33gb.

Could it be a virus at work or the hardware?

Sounds like hardware but you can always go to Spyware Asylum and check for virus'.
