How do i increase the boot time in windows xp home edition sp2?

i have:
amd athlon 64 3500+
msi k8n neo4 motherboard
300gb hard drive 7200 rpms
1gb of ram
xfx 6800 xtreme 256mb

My pc used to boot fast till today then when the windows xp slash screen comes up the loading bar goes across about 10-20 times.

what softwares have you installed today? one of em probably runs on startup..

none and nothing runs on my startup except for the services

you noticed this *slowdown* the first time you powered on the pc today? if you did then it might be a software you installed yesterday , anyway if its not a software you recently installed then its possible your pc got infected by spyware download blacklight

scan with it and clean what it finds (if it finds any at all) , also download hijackthis http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html click "do a system scan and save a logfile" and open a new thread at this section http://www.techist.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=126 and copy & paste it

By increase the boot time, do you mean make it boot faster or slower?

If you want to boot faster, do a virus scan and defrag your hard drive.

the windows xp splash screen the loading bar goes by 30 times!!!
