Every few minutes i hear an odd single click come form my tower, like the sound of a breaker getting popped. I have read that this is often a forewarning of a failing hard drive. I have attempted to download and run a few different programs to scan my hard drive for errors to make sure my assumptions were correct but none have found any. Do failing hard drives just slowly die error free? And if my HD was failing slowly would it cause frequent total system lock ups that last 15-30 secs and occur about 2-3 times a day or when under a heavy load?

This may be a hardware fault, not software. No software can detect if the hard drive has a bad header. Be sure that nothing else on your board is going down. Blown capacitors, for example.

I usualy say at this point, back your data up, and have a spare drive handy, as that is just pure physical failure of the drive. Blown caps and what not don't make clicking sounds. -.-
