Hi everyone,
I just upgraded my system with a new video card. I purchased the GEFORCE 8600 GT and also a new power supply, the Antec TP3-550. Previously I had onboard video. The first time I installed it the video card (I believe) was making a terrible click & humming sound. I had forgotten to disable the onboard video first, so I did that and reinstalled the video card. Everything was fine for a week, then last night it started making the sound again and hasn't stopped since. Does anyone have any input on what is causing this and how it can be stopped? Do I have a defective card?

HP m7160n with onboard video disabled.
3 gb ram
550 w power supply.
pci-e bus
samsung 245T monitor with DVI cable.

Check to make sure that nothing is impeding the fan on the video card. Electronics usually don't make noise, moving parts do. Check the fan on the card, as well as the fan in the power supply (don't take it apart just check if that is where the sound is coming from).

If it is coming from either fan and you can't dislodge whatever is causing the sound, send it back for a new one.
