CD-ROM & DVD-ROM Problem

My CD-ROM & DVD-ROM drives are not working right.........basically........when I put a disc into either drive it won't recognize or play it unless I right click "My Computer" click "Manage" than click "Disk Management"
than the drive I have the disc in works!! What the heck is going on??!! Please help!!

Make sure the IDE cables r tighly connected, also make sure the right jumpers are inplace and that the cd roms r in the right IDE plus parts.
