cd dvd drive not working

my cd rom is not working. I put in a disc and I feel the rom doing something and a yellow light comes on but it wont play music games or anything. Windows media player says a cd drive is needed in order to rip or play cds. I have spent the last 2 nights going though and cleaning out spyware and viruses (osirus) thinking maybe a virus was causing the problem. any other suggestions?

Could be your laser is bad, or just dusty. Use a q-tip, and open the tray, you should be able to touch the laser. Wipe the end of the q-tip on it. I have done this for years, it fixes some old drives. Unless they really are kicking the bucket.

Check to see if your device manager recognizes that the drive is still there or not.
