Default cd drive not reading cd

Hello, my computer was recently knocked off of my desk and the cd drive came out of place and was detached from my computer. Now I have plugged it back in and the CD drive is powered open and can open and close but it, is not showing up in my computer or reading disks what so ever. On windows start up it is saying it cannot read drive 1 and to run a utility set up. I am unsure what to do and really need my CD burner. Thanks

Are you sure the IDE or SATA cable is connected fully, both at the drive end and the motherboard end?

Otherwise sounds like the thing is dead.

And while you are checking the cable, look at the pins on the mobo and the drive to see if any are broken.

if it is an IDE cable ensure that the cable is connected in the correct orientation.
