CD Burner/DVD-ROM doesn't burn cds

Well by the subject you should be able to see the problem I am currently having. Ever since I got this laptop I haven't been able to burn cds. I got this laptop from my sister a couple months ago. Whenever I put a cd in for it to read, it rarely ever reads it right away, so I have to eject it, and close the drive again. Is this just a sign that my drive is going to take a crap on itself soon, or is it something else?

Anyone have any ideas whatsoever? I'm trying to create some Linux bootdisks but I can't because my drive won't burn anything. Any help is welcomed and appreciated.

try uninstalling your ide drivers and reboot the computer

you probably have to reinstall windows

Your drive might be fried. If it's an older burner, they will burn out. I've had it happen on two burners that were 4x4x16 and 8x4x32.
