cant get speakers to work

oh, thats the one Slaymate linked me too and it didnt do anything after i installed it/ restarted.

I personally think it does already detect your sound card (it had Speakers listed on the sound devices menu). Try plugging the speakers into a different port or try using a pair of headphones, test the front panel connectors. It may seem stupid but also try the microphone or line-in ports (at least on my Realtek chip it can autodetect speakers even if they're plugged into the microphone or line-in port).

Also, Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices takes you to the same menu that right clicking the speaker icon and clicking Playback Devices does, it's the same menu so if you can't get to it one way then just do it the other way. Changing your Control Panel to icon view you can access it by clicking "Sound" as well.
