Can't get computer to post

I am building a new computer and cant get it to post.

ASUS 590sli mobo
AMD x2
2 1Gb Crucial ballistic DIMM
XFX 8800GT

With everything in the case and connected, I can get the system to power up and fans to spin, but no post. I thought it was the mobo shorting so I took it out of the case. With only the cpu fan, 1 DIMM, and power leads to the mobo, I can't get it to post. It powers and spins fans for about 5 seconds then shuts off by itself. I don't know what else to try.

Besides removing and then only lightly replugging in the 12v four wire cpu feed common on all boards at this time if a loose contact is the problem in the connector you may have received a doa board with bad caps, bad bios eprom, or even defect chipset. On the first two of three boards a friend got in on a new build last year that was the precise problem when two identical boards in a row were found doa! The third being a different model fired right up and is still running strong for over a year.
