Default can someone tell my why i cant get my speakers working

i recently reformatted my hard drive and re-installed windows. i kept my drivers on a slave. when i transfered them over and tried to install them and only some would install.. my soundMAX audio is one that would not... i also have a boka surround sound system, when i try to intall them with the disk it says imy computer does not have that chip the program needs. i have never had that problem when i install windows and i never installed a sound chip. so i wonder if i fust dont have the driver for my sound card? i also have a new motherboard.. im sure that might have something to do with it.... ONE MORE THING. i tried hooking up a simple set of speakers ones that are plug and play and they still wont work..... someone please tell me what exactly i should do

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."

You're probably fighting the sound cards.
