Question Burning DVDs

I got all the apps but what I Want to know is if there's any way to somehow make my PHILIPS DVD 8701 write DVD-R discs?

Like is there a firmware release or something?

Does the front show DVD ROM or does it show DVD R/RW? That will tell you right there.
