I've dropped my Maxtor 500gb hd by dropping it on quarry tile floor:(
Took it apart and saw that I've smashed the rear interface PCB - removed the hard drive from its casing to find that it is'nt a SATA connection.
Does anyone know if i can buy any sort of adaptor to link HDD with laptop USB??
I fear that my only other option is to buy a second hand duplicate from ebay (as this item is discontinued) and use its casing.
Please help a thicko in need

I hope they weren't under warranty. Opening the casing voids warranty.

If you opened the casing, you damage your drive. It's closed tight for a reason.

Just get a new Western Digital. Maxtors are dead.

The OP opened the external enclosure, not the physical hdd...

To the OP's actual question, yes you can get an adapter from IDE to USB or you could find just an IDE enclosure

I shouldn't post when I first wake up... But still opening the plastic case voids warranty. But I'm sure you can get an adapter, or other external case.
