My equipment is an old IBM PC base system with window 3.1. The mfg was sold to another company so there is no support. Could not buy another system because it is expensive. The problem is when the computer is started; going in thru mem test, MS screen and then post the problem code 1962. In the system display; no HD installed. I can not get thru the boot up phase. I do not have system software nor any bootable disk either. My fear is the boot sector of the hard drive dead and the software for the system is in the hard drive. I need to copy the software to another hard drive perhaps, window 98 or newer. Any ideas? please help.

If it was made to run windows 3.1 I think you'll probably have to do quite a bit of upgrading or it'll be too slow, if you can find out the brand and bios version and google it.
