Alright you can check the Event Viewer anytime though. It's in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools.

yeah, I don't know what exactly I should be looking for in this event manager nothing seems out of the ordinary or anything.... no really error except for the The previous system shutdown at 9:40:48 PM on 1/12/2009 was unexpected. message but that is probably from the hard boot.

Yeah those are the worst kind of messages. tell you nothing. And you aren't getting a blue screen which means it isn't a driver problem. The next step would be to switch out the video card. Try and get a friend to lend you theirs and see if it happens.
