Default Big Noob video card question

While my 7900GT is being replaced or serviced, can I use an old standard PCI graphics card in my system? I just received my new motherboard which is an MSI P6N Sli-Fi. It does have PCI slots. I'm guessing yes, but I don't want to mess anything up.......
