Backing up an unreadable HDD

I've got a 2TB Seagate HDD that yesterday was making a game stutter, locked up the system when disk checked and then wasn't detected in the BIOS.
It's seen in Disk Management as a uninitialised disk but won't initialise as either MBR or GPT.
I've tried backing it up using a few programs but it keeps disappearing or getting errors like 'Failed to read from sector 2,048 of hard drive 2. Try to repeat the operation. If the error persists, check the disk using Check Disk Utility and create a backup of the disk.'

Testdisk doesn't recognise the drive but presently it's connected via USB and Disk Management sees it as a healthy 1.7TB drive. I realise the more I try to access it the worse it's going to get but thinking is it worth trying to fix the MBR to try and at least enable a possible backup?
I do have an old backup of the drive but would like to have a go at recovering the rest if possible (few new videos and images).
