ATI drivers problem may 5 2006

Hi , I have just downloaded the new Radeon Drivers pacakge from ati.com due to reinstalling \windows. I use a new x1600 Pro 256 mb, but now after installing the new drivers, during the windows startup procedure I see a "lego"-like breakup of the black screen just before the logon screen?? Why would this be>
Rediculous , right. all previous drivers never showed this problem
