Sounds like a good plan, if the bios replacement chip does not work after all this.
Just let the thing die and move on to a different board or newer intel lga socket build.
Very "FEW" people have fixed it but it wasn't permanent. :/

At this point I'm tinkering with the board more as a learning experience than out of any real hope of resurrecting it. It's given me almost 6 years of service and has housed numerous upgrades so I'm happy with its performance and lifespan. The only sad note is that it's still quite a capable board, upgrade-wise, since the rig has a quad core QX6700 cpu (4x 2.66Ghz) which has yet to really bat an eyelid at any of the programs I regularly use.

The next rig will probably be a top of the range Rampage 5 - based rig, but I don't want to spare any expense so the complete article will be over 2000 british pounds. It'll be a while before I've saved up for that. Will be going for a GeForce Titan or whatever the top of the range nVidia card of the time is. Saving my pennies now.
