Default Asus A7V Rev 1.02 mobo with Athlon 950, need help with BIOS version

I have a Asus A7v Rev 1.02. When it boots up it says "Award Media BIOS v6.0" and BIOS version 1004D.

I tried getting it to run with a low end Athlon XP but according to Asus support it won't work and the highest one I can get for this mobo is a Athlon 950. I tried asking but the support person disconnected, it would be like hanging up on someone while they are asking you a second question, jerks.

So does anyone know if I can get the Athlon 950 to work with this A7V and BIOS levels? Before the tech gave me a online chat kick in the nuts he said it needed the newest BIOS version, I really doubt that and think he didn't know so that was the safest bet.

The problem is I bought the mobo, now I am going to buy the CPU and I really don't want to dish out another $30 for a BIOS chip since I don't have any other CPU's I can use to flash it.

Thanks for any help you all can give.
