adding a 400gb wd hdd problems

Okay, well, for Christmas I got a 400gb western digital hdd. So I opened it up and plugged it in, but when I go to "My Computer" it doesn't recognize it's there. Is there any configurations I need to do? Any help is much appreciated, Gavin.

Start>Run>compmgmt.msc

Go down to Disk Management and format your new drive. It may also say add new partition in the unallocated space.

In administrative tools, computer managment, disk managment, make sure you select the CORRECT drive before formating.
