ACER 5610, Intel Core Duo T2050 (1.6Ghz), 80GB SATA HD, DVD RAM (PATA?)
If the HD is connected the system does not pass the initial logo screen (I'm unable to even enter setup <F2>), with HD removed the system will boot using the DVD-RAM drive (tested with XP setup CD). Even ensuring that the DVD (IDE-2) is set as the first boot device, the system still refuses to boot if HD is connected.
I know the HD is SATA (presumably IDE-0 in BIOS but can't confirm since I can't get to BIOS when installed), I'm assuming the DVD drive is PATA (IDE-2 in BIOS).
This computer is not mine and I don't want to tell my friend to buy a new HD (money is a problem) in case it is the controller that is faulty (if only the system would boot from DVD when HD is installed so I can run some checks
Any suggestions welcome.
