Hi

Installed a Maxtor 80G HD IDE to a pc I got for my kids. Downloaded the maxblast 4 software from maxtor onto a floppy for install - all good did the install procedure.

Asked me what OS I wanted to use, clicked 98se. It asked for boot disk in floppy - I did, all good.

Asked me to reboot with OS disk in cdrom. I did. The disk wasn't found!!!

All I'm left with is a - C:\>

Can't get anything to happen. I don't really know what to do with a C:\>. Anything I put in and press enter with gets a "Bad command or file name." message. fdisk, format, setup etc... all give the same. The only one that puts something on the screen is C:\>dir, which says this -

COMMAND COM 93,890 04-23-99 10:22p
HIMEM SYS 33,191 04-23-99 10:22p
OAKCDROM SYS 41,302 04-23-99 10:22p
3 file(s) 168,383 bytes
0 dir(s) 78,140.31 MB free

Been up all night, (literally) trying to sort it on the net.

Any ideas

Thanks in advance.

Unless you were trying to partition, the only default drive is C.
You might want to reformat, considering you are replacing an older drive.

1. place your boot disk in
2. boot from it
3. then type a:
4. then a: should be there and type fdisk
( or try typing format c:)
then retsrt and boot from floppy using CD support and install 98....

REPLY BACk!!
