9800GT + DVI to HDMI = No Audio?

Simple thing we all over looked.

Although you have HDMI hooked up the DVI connector its self is not capable of transfering audio.

Why would the card have an SPDIF connector then? Or do you mean the adapter?

DVI only transmits video not audio

When you use a dvi connector to hdmi you still send only video into the hdmi port,the only way u will get audio is if u connect hdmi to hdmi

You can always use a seperate audio rca cable to transmit the audio.

Many new cards can carry audio via the dvi to hdmi adapter by using 2 of the unused pins on the dvi port.

My card is one of them. Some have it built in and some require a audio connection from the motherboard. Mine is the latter.

Not sure about the 9800gt. Would be best to check the manual on it.

If your card does not support audio over dvi then you will need to connect a line from the sound card or onboard sound either into your tv or tuner if you use one.

Well this card does support audio over DVI. The manual was worthless finding any information about it though. Had to use a good ol' Google search...

Do you have just a plain dvi cable to try?

Since it doe's handle audio from the dvi maybe the hdmi cable is trying to over ride the signal or some crap like that
