Default 9800 just sucks?

Ok Ive been pissed off lately with my 9800 card and its image tearing so ive tried a few things.

1. turned off fast write, no improvements.

2. Massively underclocked the card to test if tearing would go away (50% underclock), no improvement.

3. Tried various other remedies people were saying, no improvements.

Im not retarded i know vsynch will fix the problem but having that on screws your fps over.

Is there any other suggestions out there or can i just conclude that the 9800 pro sucks and I should try and get a 6800 gt.

Well, all ATI cards have an image tearing problem in Doom 3. Is Doom 3 the game you are talking about? If so, turn on VSync and turn on tripple buffering. Tripple buffering will cause you not to lose FPS by using Vsync.

I did that but it still drops from 60 to 30 rather then anything in between. I set the vsynch on in the doom options and forced triple buffereing in my video card options, is that what im supposed to do?
