Is this card actually any good the introductory price in the UK was £40 (approx $60 bearing in mind market difference):

It's an OK card if you are conscious about price. Since it's an entry level DX10 card it should provide you with the latest technology like support for DX10, Shader Model 4, HD-DVD, Blue Ray. It beats having an integrated card.

Go for the 8600GT, it's only a few bucks more. I just build a rig for a nephew and this card is great. If you really want to play DX10 games, you'll have to opt for something higher.

8400/8500 are pretty underpowered especially for DX10 cards and what that technology is capable of. Honestly you could spend the same cash on a DX9 card and get more bang for your buck. If you want DX10 go for atleast an 8600gt--it's not much more and it's a lot faster.
