ive just purchaced a hitachi deskstar hdd
formatted it
and when window recognised it
it only shows 298 gb free
and its a 320 gig drive
is there a way too get the rest of the space for storage

i would be greatful

Dude: Your drive is not metric. there are 1024 bytes per megebyte. Ergo 350gig/1024 bytes per megabyte = 312. gb Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......Go into disk management an see if your dirve has a second small partition. If it does, remove that partition. If you don't know how to get there, let me know.

Did the manufacturer provide you with an install CD? You are going to have to reset the partition because the drive was formated with that size limitation.

is there any software out there for removing the limitations
i know of one for maxtor hdds but cant remember the name of it

I would call the manufacturer or go to their website and see if they have a HD utility...other than that I'm at a loss.

Edit: There are some drives that have jumper options that limit the size of the drive by defining cylinder allocations differently. I would check the jumper settings and make sure they are correct for the maximum drive size.
