Default 2 monitors, random freezing

I have 2 monitors plugged into different graphics cards, LCD and CRT respectively. The second acts as an extension. I have not had this problem before. When I leave my PC and it goes in stand by mode, when I attempt to awaken it, only the 2nd monitor turns on. I can see the mouse curser and I can drag a window I open to the 2nd monitor. For some reason the main monitor does not turn on. I occasionally see some reaction (eg. when I open task manager there is an outline). Only way to get it working is to manually turn the PC off and on again.

LCD is a UK monitor, I just changed the power plug. This could bring light to something.

Any ideas??
