I got it from a friend, the hard drive specs are on the sticker.
Capacity: 160GB, it says on the back

Set the pin to slave, connected to my computer via IDE.

Shows up in vista, asks to format, but I noticed that the capacity shown is 31.4 GB.

How is this possible?
I used Actice@ Kill Disk and it also shows the hard drive capabity at 31.4

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

need to be more specifi...

set the pin to slave...why? it tells you or you want to?
what else is in the system

could be the hd is partitioned previously from something...delete the partition and reformat, maybe it will show up completely

maybe your friend bogus'd you...just slapped a sticker on it that's not for it...or maybe friend got it from the wrong source...

etc

There are hidden partitions on that drive. Use a windows 98 boot disk and boot up to A: type fdisk at the A: select option 4 to show all partitions. Then you can use one of the other options to delete all the partitions. Then make a new active partition. Reboot and it will show all ,that is if the drive isn't damaged. If you don't have a 98 start up disk you can get a utility Cd for free here.
