yes I completely understand, and being young I decided to look up if its illegal and it is up to debate, if you infiltrate someones computer it with their internet or do dirty stuff(child porn etc) on their internet that is illegal. They do not have a law about useing other peoples internet and not breaking those rules though, I looked it up.

when I noted the fact that I was young and that was important, I ment that if I got in trouble it could affect my whole life, seeing as even though its kind of trivial it would most likely affect me trying to get a job.

I may continue with my effort to get their WEP password, seeing as it's not viewed as breaking the law.

Hacking somebodies WIFI is against the law, period. Using an open wifi isn't against the law because it's unencrypted, even though frowned upon. Though it's hard to get caught even if you don't take precautionary measures if you do get caught it can be put under invasion of privacy and many other things.

If you are under 18 in the US unless you have any serious felonies your record gets wiped when you become an adult to the US government. Getting tickets or being fined for minor things wont effect your ability to get a job. Only if you do major things that put you in prison. Even still, a lot of jobs do a criminal background check making sure you aren't a drug dealer or car thief ect.

That was written in 2005. Try Googling again, I would if I wasn't so busy right now. BTW that article is talking about open wifi, not literally cracking somebodies encryption.

In some states even being caught "sniffing" packets can be a crime due to the nature of it. You can get personal data, and all sorts of information being broadcast wirelessly.

A technical point the further explains why you need a quality PSU over a hunk of junk.

Wow.. This is just, amazing? I've always had a strong interest for Computer Technology and Computer Gaming. And I'm proud to say I read every single word of this thread. I'm still none the wiser.. But I hope within time of being a member of this forum and reading people's threads I'll eventually learn.

So again, thank you very much for this thread PP Mguire, I can't imagine how long it must of taken you.

Couple of hours give or take with part swapping and actual benchmarking. Glad to be of some help.

He only got a slap on the wrist, and he was using the wifi every day without being a paying customer. Was also written in 2007. Back then speedy internet wasn't so cheap and wifi wasn't open. Usually had to get the code after a purchase from an employee. It's kind of ridiculous that people can get up to 10 years in prison for something like this when murderers are let go with less.

On my phone brah.
