Default Xp

Since I'm resigned to buying XP for my first build, is there any real reason to get Pro or the "media center edition" or will I be fine with home?

Pro gives you more networking features basically.

Media center gives you, well Media Center.

Home cannot be joined to a domain and cannot be remoted into. Pro can. Media center is just Home edition with some extras. You will be fine with Home.
