I'm going to be giving my PC to my bro, But my x1900xt is dieing so I wanted to buy a new card for him, Unfortunately it has to be pcie x16(not 2.0)

I was thinking about the 9800 GT 512MB, How dose it compare to the x1900xt 512MB?

wow

9800gt is leaps and bounds beyond the x1900.

dont worry bout pci-e x16 2.0, any pci-e x16 works fine in that slot. and vice versa, 2.0 works 100% fine in x16 slot.
9800gt is a fairly decent card, you will not be disapointed.

Pci express 16 2.0 is compatible with regular 16x

and the 9800gt would blow the x1900xt out of the water, trust me i used to have a x1900xtx that thing sucked.

A simple chart:

X1900XT = .......................

9800GT = .....................................................................................................................................................

OK cool!

I knew you could put a x16 card in a x16 2.0 mobo, but I didn't know the x16 2.0 cards are compatible... Thanks!

I dunno. I had an X1900XT and got an 8800gt about a year ago, namely because I wanted a black pcb card.

My brother still runs an X1950XTX that belonged to Nos, and it runs everything just fine...

I wouldn't get anything lower than a 9800GTX if your going to be upgrading seeing as the 9800GT is just an 8800gt which is a year old card already.

Thanks for the info, But I'm not really upgrading, I'm replacing a dieing card in the pc that I'm giving to my brother. I ended up ordering the Saphire 4380 (x16 2.0 ;)) for $110 plus -$15 combo deal with the e7300 cpu for my new build.

Right now my bro is using my old x850pro agp, So I think he will be happy with the 4830!
