I was just looking and it seems MAYBE according to reviews (cant trust them all the time) that the sapphire x1800gto2 are really downclocked xt's and with some simple oc'ing are back to xt's. Get a zalman vf900 if this is true and go past xtx and be way ahead of 7900gtx's and get better fps and image quality at higher resolutions than nvidia card's. (All based if that review was true. The person said they pealed back the label and it said x1900xt on the origonal label).
Get a His IceQ3 Turbo X1800gto (gto not gto2). I've yet to hear someone say that they couldn't unlock it to Xl.
I have one and mine will run 16pipes @730/730. Thats good for ~10,000 in 3dmark05 which is near 1900xt territory.
And theirs no need to get a better cooler. The one that comes with it works extremely well and is almost unaudible.
And it only cost ~$200.
