Default X1800XT vs. 7800GTX

What are the drawbacks of going with one over the other? Which one would you recommend?

7800gtx 512 mb or 256? I would go with 7800 gtx in any case because I've heard drivers are more optimized for the latest games.

the 512MB 7800 GTX is the best card.
the 256MB 7800 GTX is about equal, but I'd get the GTX because of better drivers, and better image quality. plus it's cheaper.

7800GTX 512 is the best. Between the 7800 GTX and X1800 XT it would be personal preference. Image quality is a person by person opinion so it's up to the individual when it gets close. The 7800 GTX 512 is just going to push more frames than the 256 version so some would say the ATI card has the best quality.

I think if I had to choose, I'd get the 7800 GTX 256 mb. The 512 is still out of range for anyone that isn't rich. I believe the x1800xt squeaks by the GTX 256mb, though. Either way, ATI's increase in price just doesn't justify the the performance increase.

The x1800xt has only 16 pipelines will the 7800gtx has 24, thats just another reason why the 7800gtx would be a better buy.

the architecture is different. That was one of thier selling points. The new generation of cards is about adding pipes or upping mhz. They were saying that they can get more done with those 16 pipes than most cards with 20 pipes can do. Here's a metaphoric simile:

X1800XT is to lesser pipes as AMD Athlons are to ghz. They just don't need as many to get the job done.

I know they're not related, but I feel like they're the same sort of concept. Higher numbers in certain areas don't guaruntee upped performance.

^^ right. Pipes aren't as important as overall performance.
