x1600 vs. 6800GS

hey everyone i just wanted to know how much of a difference will i feel between these 2 cards, becuz here in Toronto the 6800GS is almost 80 dollars more than the x1600 and i was wondering if its worth it. thanks

also i want someone to clear something up, x1600PRO = AGP ?? x1600XT = PCI E???

well since the DX10 is coming out the X1600 PRO and then just upgrade in like 3-2 years

no, pro doesn't mean AGP and XT doesn't mean PCI-E. They're differennt cards, like 6800GT and a 6800Ultra. The differnce here is GDDR3 memory. The core clock is a little higher too.

The benchmarks suggest that the 6800GS is faster, but I don't think it's 80 dollars faster than the X1600XT. It's 80 dollars faster than the X1600Pro though.

6800GS is without doubt better than the X1600XT. Come on people, its like comparing a 6800 to a 6800Ultra...or if you're comparing the X1600Pro to the 6800GS, then it'd be like comparing the 6600GT to a 6800Ultra. Huge difference and well worth it. You'd better be willing to overclock though.

The 6800GS is faster due to more vertex engines and ROP's, although it has slower clocks than the X1600XT. Giving the X1600XT only 128-bit memory was a huge mistake on ATI's part too ... it's partly why it suffers in most games next to the 6800GS. Thankfully they won't be making the same mistake with the X1800GTO.

If you're smart, you'll know not to compare the hardware specs for performance. The 6800GS performs like a 6800Ultra while the X1600XT performs little better than the 6600GT.
