go AMD! yes [going to a dual core processor], also if you want to prepare for the next phase of 3D gaming!

Oh, read this (http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10442_7-6389077-1.html)its a bit old but its still relevant

It'll explain why you should make the switch to AMD!

only problem is most games are single threaded so unless you overclock then in most games you are going to get less performance.

And i do have an reason not to switch, becouse I cant like i said for various reasons, so as the original post was intended to be should i bother getting a duel core intel chip or just boost up to say a penitum 3.4 or 3.6 cpu?

short answer is that if you can only afford a low clocked cpu like th 805 then you probably shouldn't make the switch. while it is true it should perform nicely in multi-threaded games there are not many currently available. so overall you would get less performance

there is no reason you should buy a new CPU for 200mhz difference, ten minutes and an online guide on overclocking can get you that,if not more

ummm if he has a 965 or 975 chipset he could swap to a pentium D without a hitch. if he is using DDR2 ram then everything is not interchangeable. just let him be, if he is anything like me then no doubt the constraint is money. not everyone can afford a new cpu, memory and motherboard.
