well i got a router microsoft and i need a router that is wireless because the next computer is downstairs and cant use a cord...so my question is do i have to get the exact brand MICROSOFT wireless router or can i get any other brand?

any brand will work. they all have to use a certain standard.
currently, we have Wireless G (or 802.11g), which basically every wireless network uses now.

although the Wireless N standard will be coming out sometime. I'm not sure exactly when. Wireless N products will be backward compatible with Wireless G.

some companies are making their own N draft products. the standard hasn't been set completely; currently the companies have different ideas on what the standard should be, so they don't always work well if you mix different brand N draft products. But that will change once the standard has been consolidated.
