Question Will this rig be any good?

Well I just came into 1,300 dollars and figured i'd build a rig(my first time) with it

Processor:
Phenom II X4 940

Graphics card:
MSI N275GTX TwinFrozr OC GeForce GTX 275 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP

Ram: 8gbs
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK

Mother board:
??? Help me out here, what motherboard would be most compatible with then above hardware?

Also, I'm going to read manuals ofcourse, but once i put it all together, and boot it up, my question is, i install the windows disk and everything goes good? I'm not to good at TECH things, just pretty good with my hands so im hoping this is so

1) The phenom is an amazing processor (especially for the price) but with $1300 you could definitely step up to the i5/i7s.

2) The GTX 275 has been replaced by the Radeon 4850. Its much faster for around the same price.

$140 Gigabyte Motherboard
$200 Core i5 750 Processor
$85 Gskill Ripjaw DDR3 2x2gb
$100 Antec TruePower Power Supply

Case + Harddrives are up to you. Getting more than 4gb is not really necessary. I've played Crysis ultra high settings on 1920x1080 and I used just over 3gb.

Yeah, it's simple. Just plug everything up. Turn on your computer, put in the Windows cd and go through the whole setup process. After that's done it will restart and you'll boot up to your desktop. At that point the first thing you need to do is install updated drivers for your hardware off the internet. Mainly your graphics card and sound card (if you have one.)

I would have to disagree about the 4850 being better than the GTX 275! However I am a fan of the i5/i7 over the Phenom.

Just something I threw together real quick:

Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD753LJ 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ - Desktop Memory (there was cheaper gskill ram but newegg came up with an error about quantity)
Newegg.com - ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
Newegg.com - XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards (if you like ATI)

Comes out to about 900 w/o case + PSU (more personal items imo)

Again, just a quick and dirty build. Might as well go for the new generation ATI card (if you don't want to wait for the new Nvidia ones).

you didnt click his link though, he made a typo. im assuming he meant the hd 5850, which would make more sense because it is better than the 275.

Also go with this RAM. It's cheaper with better timings. Newegg.com - OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK - Desktop Memory

ya. 4850 competes with the 9800GTX, not gtx275... I agree though, go with a 5850 instead of the gtx275.

You could also consider the evga x58. Only $10 more after rebates. That's just me though, the Asus P6T is a great board too.

Newegg.com - EVGA E758-TR 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Yeah sorry about that. Just to clarify.

Radeon 5870 = GTX 295
Radeon 5850 = GTX 275
Radeon 4870 = GTX 260
Radeon 4850 = 9800GTX+

Of course some of them aren't exactly 1:1 as far as performance. But they are similar enough to be compared.
