Perpendicular drives have the magnets Long wise isntead of horizontal. The magnets must be flipped instead of re-oriented.

The benefits are more speed and capacity.

I heard somewhere that the write speed is faster but the read speed is slow. Is that true? Or are they faster all around?

It looks like the read speeds are marginally faster than the write speeds.

There is a good comparison between the Westren Digital, Seagate, Fujitsu, and Samsung here.

I love 404's. They make me all warm and fuzzy inside.
