Now hear me out.

Id like to upgrade soon but im not sure which route to take.

I can get a new CPU and RAM:

AMD opteron 170 and OCZ/Gskill 2gb which could cost around £160-£180 for both.

Or i can get a new CPU, MOBO, RAM and prob new OS too:

Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3R £90
G.skill memory £80
Intel Cpu E6750 £130/Q6600 £190
?New OS? £60

Total: £280 or £340 (depending on cpu)

My current specs are:

DFI lanparty UT-Ultra-D
AMD 3700+ san diego
Cheap 1gb crap ram
Sapphire X1900XT
Hiper 580 watt psu
Windows XP home OEM

What makes more sense?

PS Im very interested in crysis.

I don't think you quite grasped what i meant.

Sure the intel Duos are the best at the moment.

But for my situation which is the better option.

Re edited first post.

I have £1500 in my bank but i want to know what would be a better option between my 2 choices in my first post.

I will OC.

Your computer is outdated

If I were you I would build a new build..... The price of Q6600 has recently dropped down..... And Crysis is one of the games that will utilize quad cores

X1900XT is not bad video card, so you can use it in your new build.......and later you can upgrade to nvidia 9800 when it comes out late this year...

Hmm shame i never got to use my DFI board for OCn.

You think i should just get the items from the 2nd choice?

Can i still use my windows XP home OEM?

There isn't anything wrong with the Opty. Although if you were to go that route you could save some cash and get the Opty 165 and overclock it to the 170's speed. essentially all the Optys are the same.

If you don't need the extra oomph of a core2 then I think the Opty is a more economical choice. You can boost your speed for little cash in the short term and then next spring go for a quad core if you want.
