im in a pickle...im stuck in what to get...im spending around 850, so this is what i want:

AMD X2 3800
eVGA 7800GT
Corsair XMS 1GB
Seagate 250GB

or

AMD X2 4200
eVGA 6800 (going to o/c)
Patriot 2GB
Seagate 250GB

well.... I'd get the 2nd one for 2 reasons... when the new vid cards come out, you'll be ready to buy, and since you're gonna oc, it'll be able to play at max. Also, the 2 gigs will be good for the road ahead.

The first choice without a doubt. More and better memory, better video card. Plus (I can't believe no one here has caught onto this already), the X2 3800+ can reach speeds of the X2 4200+ by a simple 200mhz OC.

Also, what is your current motherboard?

And if you don't plan on storing a lot of stuff, the 74GB 10,000RPM HD's are always an excellent component for gaming.

i am using a DFI LP nF4 Ultra-D mobo

and i have to get a huge hard drive becuase i store many, many files...games, misc programs, apps and documents galore

ok i have pretty much have a definite pick for cpu: im going to get the x2 3800. now, what do i do, get 1 gb ram and a 7800gt or 2gb ram and a 6800...i want to go with the 6800 since the 7800gt wont handle dx10 too well and just upgrade from a cheap card...i dont want to blow 300 on a gt and another 300 on a newer one
