I mean in the end the X79 setup had more features, and cost more. It was more of an "extreme" setup, whereas a Z77 is more in line with a "mainstream"/"performance" setup.

Yes, I noticed shortly after that I was comparing the 2011 vs 115x I was reading somewhere online a while back that the Ivy Bridge-E would be comming out at the same time as the mainstream series of chips. I hadnt seen that the Ivy E series had been delayed considerably.

What 2011 mobo would you guys recomend? i am currently looking at the ASRock X79 extreme6.
