Default What can bad ram do?

My co-worker was wanting to throw some ram in his computer to see if it works. I told him that when overclocking if you go to far then it can damage the loader for Windows which can require a reinstall of Windows. I assume a bad ram chip could do the same, but am I correct?

"Now I lay my computer down to sleep, I pray the hard drive my files to keep, If I should lose power before I save, I pray the hard drive my backups to take"

bad ram usually just doesn't work or makes the comp unstable and prone for crashes. in my experience

just pure instability, or sometimes it just won't boot (like this system..)
