weird display problem

ive got a 20" widescreen viewsonic tft monitor. Its great but recently ive been having a problem. I orginally had a 6600gt connected through a dvi cable, but when the computer crashes (its done this a couple of times recently) i have to turn off at the mains and restart, but the monitor says no signal. Its fine when restarting normally. It does the same with the vga cable. Now ive put a msi 7800GTX in there instead and its doing exactly the same thing.

any ideas what im doing wrong?

try using a different monitor with the different vga cards.
