WD6400AAKS or WD3200AAKS

I am trying to decided between the WE 640aaks or WD320aaks.

The 320 is cheaper, and I know I will never need more than the 320gb for storage.

However, I heard that the 640 is a better performer.

Is that true? I also heard that it was because of firmware and that the 320 was supposed to receive a firmware update to make it the same as the 640, is that true?

What are the main differences? Will I need to get the 640 and not use the extra 300 gb for better performance?

I'm not for sure, but i would say the 640 only performs better because it has 2 platters instead of just 1. They both have the same disk density though so they should perform the same. I honestly would go with the 640 since i am a pack rat and never delete stuff. But if you know you aren't going to fill it up i would go for the 320. Even if the 640 writes or reads a hundreds of a second faster you aren't going to notice a difference in day to day activities.

i'd get the 640gb because it's really cheap for what you get out of it...
